THE POSITION The Alameda County Public Works Agency is currently seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team. Under general direction, the Public Works Inspector III, Construction, performs advanced journey-level field work and provides lead direction to others engaged in inspecting the construction of capital projects, improvements and repairs to flood control facilities, roads, highways, sidewalks and water supply systems. This position is responsible for overseeing the work of outside contractors enforcing compliance with plans and specifications for the construction projects, supervising the removal of hazardous materials, and signing off on completed hazardous material clean-up work.
Public Works Inspector III’s, Construction, have full responsibility for their assigned construction projects; and may train and provide field supervision to less experienced inspectors and assigned staff to effectively deal with unusual projects and projects that require special attention to detail. The Public Works Inspector III, Construction is distinguished from that of Public Works Inspector, Facilities by its specialization inspecting new construction of capital projects, repairs and improvements to flood control facilities, roads, highways and water supply systems, and oversees the work of outside contractors.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications stated below, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated a track record of success as: • Someone prepared for advancement having achieved sufficient technical knowledge and skill to serve as a lead field inspector highly experienced with inspecting new construction of capital projects, flood control facilities, roads, highways and water supply systems and who keeps up with terminology and current developments and trends in the construction inspection field. • A spirited individual capable of motivating others while providing lead direction and oversight to less experienced construction inspectors and outside contractors. • Someone adept at effectively planning, organizing and managing the time and resources of construction field inspection projects to ensure that field work is completed efficiently and effectively. • A confident and competent decision maker capable of troubleshooting and finding solutions to field and construction related problems using sound judgement to recommend proper courses of action in the field. • Someone capable of developing, using, and maintaining collaborative relationships and working cooperatively with others, inside and outside the organization, to accomplish objectives and build and maintain mutually-beneficial partnerships, leverage information, and achieve results. • An effective communicator who conveys information and in a manner that meets audience needs; someone able to develop and maintain effective relationships with others and who relates well to people from varied backgrounds and in different situations. • Someone who possesses an air of confidence and creates a good first impression by professionally commanding attention and earning the trust and respect of others.
