Deputy Municipal Utilities Director/Maintenance & Collection Systems


The City of Stockton offers an exciting career opportunity for a Deputy Municipal Utilities Director/Maintenance & Collection Systems. This at-will position reports directly to the Director of Municipal Utilities and is responsible for planning, coordinating, managing, reviewing, evaluating, and participating in all wastewater collection facility and stormwater system operations, maintenance, and repair activities. The ideal candidate will have the technical and managerial skills necessary to effectively manage preventive maintenance programs to maintain maximum wastewater flow and minimize stormwater intrusion. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing maintenance/collections systems while ensuring activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Other responsibilities include:
• Providing leadership and daily direction to Departmental staff;
• Offering professional support and advice to the Department Director, civic groups, and the public related to the operation, maintenance, and improvements of wastewater collection facilities and stormwater systems;
• Ability to promote strong working relationships with regulatory agencies;
• Ensuring Departmental compliance with applicable City, State, and Federal laws and monitoring changes in laws, regulations, and technology that may affect Division operations;
• Communicating official plans, policies, and procedures to staff and the public;
• Supervising, training, mentoring, and evaluating professional, paraprofessional, technical, and administrative support staff.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in engineering or closely related field and three years supervisory experience in a water or wastewater utility or in underground pipeline construction and maintenance. Additional lead or operational level experience, as outlined above, may be substituted for the education on a year for year basis to a maximum of two years. California registration as a PE is desired. The annual salary is up to $156,193 with a valid California PE-civil License.
