Solving Problems Everyday!
Laura Johnson, Manager of Pipeline Construction & Equipment
Laura has a B.S. from U.C. Berkeley in Civil Engineering and is a California registered civil engineer. With 30 years of experience in the industry, Laura currently manages a 225 person construction Division at EBMUD with a $60 million annual budget. Her work unit is developing the plan to take the District’s Pipeline Rebuild program from a pipeline replacement rate of 15 miles annually to 40 miles.
Laura’s job is a juggling act that comes with construction work: managing nine crews, keeping materials and equipment fully utilized and moving, and addressing challenges that crop up. She also ensures EBMUD’s work is coordinated with the cities, counties, other agencies, and public that are nearby.
This presentation will outline the alternatives evaluated, the required variables, notifications and approvals required for the helicopter pipe transport, identify the stakeholders, the outcome and the lessons learned from what evolved into a cost effective, time saving innovative approach to a challenge in ensuring a reliable long term water system distribution system.
